South Pittsburg (11-2) at Gordonsville (10-2)
Nicknames: Pirates, Tigers
Coaches: Vic Grider, Ron Marshall
The season: The Pirates scored 38 or more points in six of their wins including 74 against Whitwell. Their two losses were to Class 4A Signal Mountain (65-26) and Class 2A Knoxville Grace (3-0 in triple overtime) and neither Signal nor Grace advanced to the postseason because of TSSAA decisions/sanctions. Five of their games were against Class 2A or higher opponents including Class 6A Franklin County. In the last two weeks, their only playoff games, the Tigers have won by an average of 38.5 points. During the regular season they scored 35 or more points seven times. Their two losses were to Class 3A Smith County (15-14) and to Class 2A Trousdale County (34-20). They held seven of their opponents to 14 or fewer points.
Last week: South Pittsburg bested Coalfield 36-6; Gordonsville defeated Eagleville 49-14.
How far: The Pirates haven't been at home since Week 1 of the playoffs and this trip may seem like a breeze. It's approximately 100 miles and most of the supporters know how to get there. Mapquest is now suggesting driving to Manchester on I-24 West and exiting at Manchester to state highway 53 and driving 23 miles into Gordonsville. The school is located at 110 East Main Street.
