WINCHESTER, Tenn. -- McCallie, in dramatic fashion, and the Baylor girls won Division II East/Middle golf championships Monday at Bear Trace at Tims Ford.

The McCallie team left campus without team leader Gordon Hulgan, who slipped and cracked a bone on the side of his foot. With the team on the road, he was at Erlanger hospital getting the foot X-rayed.

Hulgan wound up playing, but a teammate with a jammed finger was warming up when he arrived.

"We were consistent as a team," Blue Tornado coach Tony Meyers said after his team's 302-304 victory over second-place Brentwood Academy. "Charlie Wood is our only senior and he stepped up huge as the alternate. I can't say that enough. The kids knew about Gordon and we had talked about facing adversity. I was then able to relieve the pressure and tell them he was playing."

The round might not have been up to Hulgan's standards -- he shot a 77 -- but he was the last one off and all he needed was to shoot a 78 or less to give McCallie the title. Wood, Andrew Weathers and Case White shot 75s.

Baylor finished in a fifth-place tie with Montgomery Bell Academy at 319.

The Baylor girls fared much better, posting a 153 and winning by eight strokes over runner-up Ensworth.

The Lady Red Raiders' Lauren Johnson and Teleri Hughes shot 76 and 77 to take the first and third individual spots, and teammate Blakesley Warren finished fourth overall with an 80.
