Prep football district playoff scenarios

District 5-AAA

Bradley Central 5-0 - 7-2 McMinn County

McMinn County 5-0 - 7-2 at Bradley Central

Ooltewah 3-2 - 6-3 Walker Valley

Cleveland 2-3 - 4-5 at Rhea County

Bradley and McMinn are in the Class 6A playoffs but likely are playing for a first-round host's role plus the district championship. Ooltewah is likely in the Class 5A playoffs, and a host role is not out of the question. Cleveland could need a win vs. Rhea to make it.

District 7-AA

Bledsoe County 3-1 - 8-1 at Chattanooga Christian

Sequatchie County 3-1 - 7-2 Signal Mountain

Grundy County 1-3 - 5-4 Notre Dame

Notre Dame 0-4 - 5-4 Grundy County

It is possible that all four teams could get into the postseason. Bledsoe can win the district championship tonight, and Sequatchie is likely to finish second. There are numerous scenarios, but one has both Bledsoe and Sequatchie hosting first-round games. Win or lose, Grundy also should make it into the Class 3A field. Notre Dame could get in the Class 4A bracket with a 5-5 record, but 6-4 would enhance its chances.

District 6-AA

East Hamilton 5-1 - 5-4 Howard

Red Bank 5-1 - 7-2 Tyner

Tyner 4-2 - 4-5 Red Bank

East Ridge 4-2 - 5-4 Brainerd

Brainerd 3-3 - 4-5 East Ridge

East Hamilton is in great position to win the district after beating Red Bank last week. Red Bank or Tyner will finish second and the East Ridge-Brainerd winner will be third. It seems likely that the TSSAA will take four District 6-AA teams, especially if Brainerd beats East Ridge to finish 5-5 overall and third in the district. Tyner, the district's only eligible Class 3A team, is on the bubble. Barring an upset loss to Howard, East Hamilton is likely to host a first-round playoff next week, and Red Bank might with a win over Tyner. However, Tyner won the district last year and was on the road in the first round.

District 5-AA

Polk County 3-0 - 6-3 Meigs County

Sweetwater 2-1 - 5-3 Sequoyah

Meigs County 1-2 - 5-4 Polk County

Sequoyah 1-2 - 4-5 Sweetwater

Polk County is the district champion, and a win over Sequoyah would give Sweetwater the second spot regardless of Meigs' showing at Polk. Even at 5-5, Meigs is likely to get in the Class 3A postseason with Sweetwater and Polk, but a loss to Sweetwater likely will bounce Sequoyah from the Class 4A field.

District 6-A

South Pittsburg 3-0 - 8-1 at Grace Christian

Lookout Valley 2-1 - 7-3 regular season completed

South Pittsburg and Lookout Valley will finish 1-2, but South Pitt needs a win at Knoxville over Class 2A's third-ranked Grace Christian for seeding purposes in the Class 1A bracket. A loss could cost the Pirates a first-round bye and have them traveling every round after the first round, whereas a win would assure them of being at home through the semifinals.

District 5-A

Boyd-Buchanan 2-0 - 8-1 at Copper Basin

Grace Academy 1-1 - 5-4 Silverdale Baptist

Silverdale Baptist 1-1 - 4-5 Grace Academy

District winner Boyd-Buchanan might have lost home-field rights through the semifinals with its loss to South Pittsburg, but a win tonight could get the Bucs a first-round bye and a second-round home game. Grace and Silverdale are battling for a spot in the Class 1A bracket, although both might get in with 5-5 records.

Division II-AA

Baylor 4-1 - 8-1 Battle Ground Academy

McCallie 2-3 - 4-4 at Brentwood Academy

With Ensworth beating Brentwood Academy last week and Baylor having a first-round bye already secured, the Red Raiders are playing for home-field advantage through the semifinals. A win over BGA would assure that. McCallie may have lost its first-round host opportunity with a loss to MBA last week, but a win over Brentwood Academy might get it back. Otherwise, it appears the Blue Tornado may be going to BGA for its state-playoff opener.
