Preview of Aug. 24 prep football games

All kickoffs at 7:30 Eastern unless noted

Games of note

Bradley Central (1-0) at Baylor (1-0)

An early peek: Both teams broke out impressive running games, Bradley with Logan Fetzner (235 yards) and Baylor with George Porter (194 yards), while their passing games were only so-so at best. While Baylor is battling through a starter's duel with Michael O'Connell and Nick Tiano, Bradley has a fourth-year starter in Bryce Copeland. Copeland's arm wasn't needed in last week's 31-7 win at Polk County, and Tiano and O'Connell came up with enough completions to keep Soddy-Daisy defenders honest in a 44-7 victory.

Ooltewah (1-0) at East Hamilton (1-0)

An early peek: Both are coming off impressive wins, the visiting Owls ringing up a 32-0 shutout of Brainerd and the Hurricanes slapping Signal Mountain 55-14. Ooltewah reportedly will be without a couple of players who were ejected from the season opener and must sit out, according to TSSAA rules. While running back Logan Jackson is the man who makes East Hamilton go, quarterback Hunter Moore completed six passes and averaged 30 yards per completion. The Owls will need that kind of performance from Brody Binder if they're to compete against the most experienced team in the Chattanooga area.

Signal Mountain (0-1) at Tyner (0-0)

An early peek: Who knows what to expect this week from the Eagles after their stunning and lopsided loss to East Hamilton last Friday? While they have an experienced quarterback, they're dealing with a relatively new offensive line, new running backs and, perhaps most importantly, new receivers. Tyner's defensive line looks a whole lot better with the addition of transfer Chris Dukes, who stands better than 6-foot-3 and weighs more than 400 pounds. He and David Powell (6-5, 300) give the Rams a formidable defensive front, and the two conceivably could tie up four blockers. Dukes will be wearing No. 72 or No. 75.

Dalton (0-0) at Ringgold (0-0)

An early peek: There might not be a more fitting matchup as Ringgold's Tigers officially move into their new home, which was rebuilt after a tornado ripped through the community in April 2011. Of course, they'll be paying for that for the next 10 years. But stadiums aside, Dalton will be looking to get off to a quick start after last year's playoff-missing performance due to an ineligibility ruling. The Catamounts officially ended the year with a 3-6 record. According to the Georgia High School Football Historical Society, Ringgold has won just once in 43 meetings with the Catamounts. That win (10-6) came in 1983.
