Boyd-Buchanan sophomore Halie Williamson has committed to play softball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Williamson said she's been to watch Lady Mocs games and a few times has gotten to play at Jim Frost Stadium with her Tennessee Fury '96 summer team and enjoyed it. Her official visit was a couple of weeks ago.

She said she liked coach Frank Reed and his staff and feels it was an easy decision.

"After I took my official visit it was pretty obvious to me what I wanted to do," Williamson said. "I felt like it was the right school. I like staying at home. My parents didn't care, as long as it was wherever I wanted to go."

Williamson batted .483 as a freshman with the Lady Buccaneers and was selected the team's most valuable player. She plays shortstop for Boyd-Buchanan but said she did not discuss positions when talking with Reed.

Boyd-Buchanan coach Brittany Carbonell said Williamson is so driven she expects perfection and is often hard on herself.

"She's very dedicated, whether it's an academics or in sports," Carbonell said. "She gives all she can and wants to win. She'll do anything you ask her to do. She'll even go above and beyond what you ask of her."

Williamson hit better than .400 last season with the Fury, which went 17-0 in the Sparkler/Fireworks Power Pool Championship in Aurora, Colo., among its achievements.

"Halie is probably the hardest-working kid we've got, and she's an honor roll student," Fury coach Kirk Lewis said. "She can play infield or outfield and has been a clutch hitter for us. She's been a great addition to our ballclub."

Williamson said she is considering majoring in biology.
