Scott Harden has resigned as Ridgeland High School's softball coach after five seasons and three playoff appearances.
Harden's softball teams finished a combined 85-47, with the best result a 21-9 season in 2009 that ended in the second round of the GHSA playoffs. Also the school's baseball coach, Harden will keep those duties and use the free time in the fall to spend with his family.
"I have enjoyed the opportunity to be able to take over the softball program for the past five years," said Harden, who has had eight players sign college scholarships during his tenure. "The girls took to our philosophy of working hard and wanted to create a strong foundation for future teams to remember them for a long time.
"Being the head coach of two sports, especially softball and baseball, is a tough task when there are two facilities to take care of and two budgets to raise money for. I want to be able to spend more time with my son and my wife and not be that guy that lets time pass me by and wish I had done it a different way."
