Christian Heritage Lions

Coach: Preston Poag (11-9 in two seasons)

Last year: 5-5, 2-3 in 6A-A

'13 dreams: The Lions jumped into the deep end of GHSA football last year with great anticipation. They did not drown even though they finished with 29 players. "It was a good first year," Poag said. "You have to get those experiences." Some Region 6-A coaches have picked Christian Heritage to win the region. It's possible.

13-for-13 contenders: Poag said it best: "I've got them all back from last year." The entirety includes senior quarterback Trevor Brown (5-foot-10, 160), senior running back and linebacker Austin Lowe ( 5-11, 190) and an impressive duo of senior receivers in Will Fischer (6-2, 190) and Nich Bartley (6-0, 180). n 13 years ago: Christian Heritage School was four years into its building and had no dreams of increasing its athletic profile to compete with GHSA members. The school started in 1986 with 35 students.

Number of interest: 106 -That's how many tackles junior Ivan Townsend made last season, including 9.5 for lost yardage.

Program superstition: Coach Poag and his players nixed one tradition due to superstition. "Every time we wore gold pants, we lost," Poag said. "We're not going to wear them anymore."

1-through-3: Senior receiver Will Fischer

Q. What has it been like going through the GHSA transition?

A. It's phenomenal and the program has grown a lot to get us great coaches and great facilities, and it's a blessing to play here.

Q. What will you guys be prepared for this year that you weren't last year?

A. We didn't have as much of a knowledge of the teams, so we'll be more prepared. But they know our strengths and weaknesses as well.

Q. What are Coach Poag's favorite practice phrases?

A. There's a lot of them: Finish the drill. Go hard. Be prepared. Don't quit.
