COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Union City dominated the first half and made just enough plays in the second half to claim a 23-14 victory over South Pittsburg in the Class 1A state football championship game here Friday afternoon.
After South Pittsburg scored on its opening possession, the Golden Tornadoes answered with the next 20 points. The Pirates pulled within 20-14 in the fourth quarter and were later held on downs deep in Union City territory trailing by nine. From there, Union City was able to run out the clock and claim its second state title, both coming against the Pirates.
