Cameron Carter knew before the trip was over last weekend that the recruiting process was over for him. Shortly after touring the Tennessee State University campus, the East Hamilton kicker committed to Tigers coaches.

"I liked the facilities and the players were nice, and I had a really strong connection with the coaches," Carter said Tuesday. "There were just a lot of positives about TSU. I'm going to major in business management and they have an awesome program, plus it's close to home so it all just added up to being a really good fit for me.

"The coaches spoke to me about whether I would be comfortable at a predominantly black school, but to me it shouldn't matter about color. It's just about doing my job, and I think I'll fit in just fine."

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Carter was named a preseason All-America after his summer performance at the Ray Guy Kicking Camp and was ranked as the nation's No. 9 combination kicker/punter. Last season he made 63 of 67 extra-point attempts and four of six field-goal tries with a long of 42 yards, and 71 of his 81 kickoffs went for touchbacks. He averaged 41 yards per punt.

Carter also has been recruited by Brigham Young, Liberty and William & Mary.
