Blevins, Lee lead Lady Trojans rout

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. - Kassidy Blevins played like it was her last time in front of the home crowd, and her 21 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and eight steals in an 81-55 GHSA Class A playoff win over Greenville would have made it a satisfying finale for the Gordon Lee senior guard.

She'll now have to find a way to top that performance, however. Seminole County upset favored Marion County, meaning the Lady Trojans will host Seminole next Tuesday instead of traveling four hours.

Gordon Lee (22-7) led 11-0 after two minutes Friday, weathered a couple of rally attempts and accomplished most of its goals in the dominating win. Blevins had plenty of help in junior post Katelyn Lee, who had a game-high 22 points and 18 rebounds, while the Lady Trojans held high-scoring Greenville guard Kiyanna Johnson 14 points under her average.

"Any time in 30 seconds you're up 6-0 it's huge," said Blevins, who had two steals and two assists in the opening surge. "We got the momentum right off the bat and never really lost it. That start was a big help.

"There is no denying [Johnson's] a really good player, so we wanted to keep her under control, and we felt if we did we had a good chance tonight. I think we did an awesome job on the defensive end."

Gordon Lee coach Lester Galyon echoed his star's thoughts.

"They're a competitive team and they had some shooters that weren't bashful about putting it up," he said. "Johnson came in averaging 32 points and our goal was to hold her under 20, which we did. Kassidy had another great all-around game, and Katelyn did a great job tonight with not only scoring but also controlling the boards."

Four points each from Lee and Katie Barger to start the second period pushed Gordon Lee's lead to 32-18, and the margin stood at 12 at halftime. The Lady Patriots, though, got consecutive layups from Keyosha Dozier and Johnson to start the third quarter, cutting the lead to eight. The two combined to score 13 points in the period, but the deficit remained 12 entering the final period.

The Lady Trojans iced the game early in the fourth as Blevins scored six straight points, then took back-to-back charges defensively as the lead grew to 20.

"That's when you know you've got something good happening, when your best player sacrifices her body on the defensive end with a big lead," Galyon praised. "That shows you what kind of desire these girls have."
