Mac Bryan

Ooltewah High School has named Mac Bryan as its new head football coach. Bryan had been the co-offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee at Martin the past three years and is a former assistant coach at UT-Chattanooga.

Bryan takes over for Shannon Williams, who stepped down in early February to accept an assistant coach's position at Walton (Fla.) High. Williams went 21-14 in his three seasons with the Owls, reaching the state playoffs twice, including last year when they got to the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Bryan coached the offensive line and later the defensive line at UTC from 2001 to '03 and also coached offensive line at Southern Miss. He played at Appalachian State from 1978 to '80.

Before going to UT-Martin, he went 4-9 as the head coach at Enka (N.C.) High School in 2009. He also was the head coach at Pikeville (Ky.) College for three seasons and coached the offensive line for one year at Newberry (S.C.) College.
