McCallie School honored a trio of trios in a single ceremony this week - three guys from each of three sports signing college athletic scholarships or confirming commitments to NCAA Division III institutions.

Linebacker Eric Wolf will continue his football career at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Record-setting diver Michael Howell will be competing in the pool at Tennessee.

Weight thrower Julian Nunally will be part of the track and field program at Harvard.

Samir Usman and Casey Cook also will be moving on in football, Usman at Birmingham-Southern and Cook at Kenyon, while Blue Tornado swimmers Jamie Hayes and Trevor Wagoner are heading respectively to Washington & Lee University and Hope College. Track 4x800 relay mates Andrew Helton and Davis Couch will join Usman in the Southern Athletic Association at Millsaps and Sewanee.

Nunally is the reigning TSSAA Division II state champion in the discus and won in discus and shot put in the McCallie Invitational, Fort Payne Invitational and Best of Preps meets this season. A New Balance Nationals "emerging elite champion" in discus, he has personal bests of 165 feet, 10 inches in that event and 55-5 in the shot, according to McCallie's release.

Couch and Usman have other attractions for their college programs besides sharing in first-place 4x800 finishes in the 2013 Chattanooga Optimist, Fort Payne Invitational and Best of Preps meets. Couch also is used to winning in the 4x400 and won McCallie's highest track honor, the Tim Lail Award, in 2012, and Helton was part of the Blue Tornado's state champion cross country team and will be running in the fall sport at Millsaps.

Howell was the state diving champion this year after a runner-up finish in 2012 and top-eights also the previous two seasons. He is the McCallie school and pool record-holder in six-dive scoring.

Wagoner had top-10 finishes at the 2013 state swimming meet in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay, and Hayes is strong in distance freestyle, having finished 12th in the 1650 free at the 2013 Southeastern Championships.

Wolf had 67 tackles and three sacks in his senior football season and also played running back and receiver and caught five touchdown passes. Usman averaged 5.4 yards a carry in rushing for 426 yards and scoring seven touchdowns, while totaling 54 tackles and 11.5 for lost yardage.

Cook was a stalwart in the offensive and defensive lines.
