COLUMBUS, Ga. - All six northwest Georgia softball teams are still alive in the GHSA state tournament, and at least one classification will have a state finalist from the area.

Northwest Whitfield and Heritage will square off for the sixth time today at 5 p.m. in the Class AAAA winners-bracket final at the Columbus Softball Complex. Northwest's Lady Bruins rode BriLeigh Baggett's no-hitter to upend top-ranked Madison County 5-0 in the second round, while Heritage pitcher Lauren Lawson tossed a one-hitter and hit a three-run homer as the Generals downed Walnut Grove 7-1.

"I'm not surprised a bit we're playing them again," Northwest coach Jason Brooker said. "We know each other so well, so it should be another good one. It says a lot about our area that so many teams are still alive."

Calhoun reached the winners-bracket final in Class AA, but Region 7 rival Dade County lost 1-0 in nine innings to Heard County after an opening win.

Gordon Lee posted a pair of impressive 8-0 wins in Class A and will face Georgia Military today at 5, while Ringgold went 1-1 on Thursday, defeating Rockmart 7-4 before falling to top-ranked Buford, 10-2. The Lady Tigers will have to go through the losers bracket to make it back to the Class AAA finals.
