Meigs County senior Morgan Boggess has accepted a softball scholarship offer and will sign Friday with Austin Peay State University.

Bogess said she visited the Clarksville, Tenn., campus last winter and liked what coach Stephanie Paris's program had to offer.

"I liked the campus, but the best part was the coaches," Boggess said. "I liked the atmosphere and the location. The players helped show me around. I just liked it."

As a pitcher and batter, Boggess has helped the Lady Tigers win the District 5-AA championship each of the three years she's played. Last season she helped lead their run to the state tournament by batting .313 with five homers and 23 RBIs. She also had a 9-4 pitching record with three saves and had 76 strikeouts against 12 walks in 89 innings pitched.

"First of all, she's just a good kid," Meigs County 11-year coach Jeff Davis said. "She's a top student, a leader in her class and a leader in her church youth group. There's not a bad thing you can say about her. And she's probably the hardest worker to come through here since I've been here. She came in the year after we graduated seven seniors off a state-tournament team and started from day one. She missed a couple of games with a concussion, but other than that she's started every game."

Boggess said the opportunity to bat as well as pitch and to be able to work her nursing-program schedule around her softball schedule are other reasons she's choosing Austin Peay.
