Sonoraville rallied from a deep hole in its GHSA Class AAA volleyball second-round match Tuesday night against Oconee County and advanced to the "Super Six" round next week at Marietta High School.

The Lady Pheonix (41-8) lost the first set, 25-22, and fell behind in set two, 19-9, before rallying for a 27-25 win. They then won the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-15, to advance.

"Our girls just do not know the meaning of quit," coach Trace Vaughn said. "I don't think I've ever seen a comeback like that second set, but I had no doubt that this team was capable -- we are all heart. Oconee was a very well-coached, hustling team, and we had to make some adjustments, but once we figured it out, you could see the confidence coming back and you could just feel victory on the horizon."

Sonoraville was led by Kristi Vaughn with 45 assists, 26 digs and a 17-for-17 serving performance. Carrie Cheeks added 24 kills and 19 digs, while Haley Ponder had 13 kills and 15 digs.

The Lady Phoenix will await reseeding before finding out their next opponent from a group that includes North Oconee, Buford and private schools Blessed Trinity, Woodward Academy and St. Pius X.

Two other northwest Georgia teams weren't so fortunate Tuesday. Heritage lost 3-2 to Carrollton, while Marist swept Southeast Whitfield 3-0.
