(All kickoffs at 7:30 unless noted)

Thursday, Sept. 12

Notre Dame (2-1) at Boyd-Buchanan (1-2)

An early peek: Irish may get Alex Darras back for this one. Darras, who started the year at quarterback, has been out with a sprained and bruised knee. However, his backup, Clay Heltzel, earned a Player of the Week nomination with a 230-yard total offense showing in the Irish's win over Chattanooga Christian. Boyd-Buchanan still living mostly on the arm and legs of senior quarterback Jim Cardwell but the Buccaneers have lost two in a row since a cliff-hanging season opener win over Red Bank.

Friday, Sept. 13

Ooltewah (2-1) at Tyner (0-2)

An early peek: Few wound have envisioned Tyner being winless going into its home opener. The Rams opened in Week 1 with a loss at Signal Mountain and then gave up a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter last week against Hixson. Ooltewah has been an offensive machine and even scored 47 in their only loss (to Siegel). QB Brody Binder found his groove last week in the Owls' district season-opening victory at Soddy-Daisy, throwing for better than 300 yards and five TDs. Rams QB Haasan Miller still learning to read defenses and must cut down on his interceptions if team is to rebound and make a run at the playoffs.

Central (1-2) at Marion County (3-0), 8

An early peek: The Pounders have lost two in a row and are struggling to keep their heads above water and maintain their preseason darkhorse projection for a district playoff spot. Marion is stingy with the football and has used Mac McCurry's yardage-eating Wing T for a great start. It might be a fast game because Marion rarely throws the football and Central has not really shown an affinity for throwing.

Signal Mountain (2-1) at Red Bank (1-2)

An early peek: It might've been a good game, this first meeting between neighbors, if not for injuries, defections, suspensions and ejections at Red Bank. QB Michael Robinson, the Lions' leading rusher and best playmaker, was injured last week and unable to finish the game against Brainerd. Top running back Courtney Stamper will have to sit this week after being ejected from the Panthers' game. Signal Mountain coach Bill Price, a former Red Bank QB, has the Eagles clicking on all cylinders since a 14-12, season-opening, final gun loss to East Hamilton. He played more than a dozen backs, including three quarterbacks, in last week's 48-0 win at Bledsoe County. This is first meeting between the two.

Bradley Central (1-1) at Hixson (2-1)

An early peek: It may help Bradley Central that the Beas had an open date last Friday but it may also help Hixson that the Wildcats have continued one of their successful 2012 traits - the art of comeback wins. They scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to knock off Tyner and get a serious leg up in the 6-AA championship race. Bradley, from 5-AAA has yet to play a district game.
