Dan Wadley resigned Monday as McCallie School's basketball coach after eight seasons and more than 130 wins.

"The timing was just right for me to do it now," Wadley said. "I will continue teaching at the school, and I'm not retiring from coaching. I'm still available if the right offer came along.

"I have been thinking about this since November and decided this was the right time to do it."

Wadley coached the Blue Tornado to the 2011 Division II state championship game and to two other Final Four appearances. His McCallie record was 132-82. He previously coached the girls' and boys' teams at Tennessee Temple Academy, and his Crusaders won TSSAA Class A state titles in 2002 and 2003.

"Dan is a dedicated and compassionate school man, and we are very happy he wants to remain with us and continue working with our boys," associate headmaster and upper school head Kenny Sholl said on the McCallie website.

Added athletic director Bubba Simmons: "I appreciate Coach Wadley's leadership as well as his dedication and commitment to the basketball program during his tenure as our head coach. His teams played hard and competed at a high level in one of the toughest leagues in the state."
