East Hamilton seventh-grader Madison Hayes didn't just reach the Pitch, Hit & Run finals during Monday's All-Star Game festivities at Target Field in Minneapolis.

The Ooltewah resident won the 11-12 girls' division, which is believed to be the first such title for Chattanooga-area youth in the baseball competition. It began in March at the local level with about 625,000 in the eight PHR age categories and continued through sectional and team competitions.

The 12-year-old Hayes won her regional site at the Atlanta Braves' Turner Field in June to advance to Monday's final at the same field that will host tonight's 85th major league All-Star Game. She beat two other finalists to win her age group.
