Dalton responded to rare early deficit and came back to dominate Northwest Whitfield on the way to a - victory.

The Bruins (5-5-3) drew first blood in the sixth minute when Bryan Villa blasted a long shot into the net. It was only the fifth goal allowed by the Catamounts this season.

Dalton (11-0-1) did not take long to answer, scoring in the 13th minute on a Justen Macias goal. Kobe Perez netted a penalty kick only a minute later to give the Catamounts the lead.

Eder Mora would tap in a third goal after a scramble near the Bruins net with just under two minutes to play in the first period and give Dalton a 3-1 edge at the end of a physical first half.

"I think we played very well," Dalton coach Matt Cheaves said. "Our team made sure to follow the plan and we're able to maintain our game."

The Catamounts missed a number of opportunities early in the second half but would finally break through when Cristian Saldana pounded a cross from Perez into the net.

Northwest would not see many chances beyond their first half goal, only mustering one shot on goal in the second frame.

"It can be hard not to not get caught up in that physical play and get away from the mission," Cheaves said. "When we stay focused and confident, we'll make our chances happen."

Samuel Fraire and a tough defense led the Catamounts to a second half shutout, keeping the gritty Bruins at bay.
