Rheagan Hall had a flashback on the first tee Tuesday.

She thought back to the point where she'd never been more nervous. She handled that moment and crushed a drive.

She did the same thing Tuesday.

The Cleveland High School freshman is tied for 10th after the first round of the Class A/AA girls' state tournament at Willowbrook Golf Course.

"It hit my hybrid out there 185 yards and I parred the hole, and that was big," Hall said by phone. "I was afraid that I'd get a bogey."

Hall shot a 6-over-par 78, playing as an individual. Teammate Heidi Barringer, a senior also playing as an individual, opened with an 82. Olivia Williams of Bradley Central shot an 86 in her state tournament debut.

Walker Valley's Dylan Lillard, the lone area boy playing in the state tournament this week, opened with a 7-over 79, which has him tied for 35th.

All four area participants started on hole No. 10. Hall shot 38 on that side including her only birdie of the day, which came at No. 18.

"I wanted to get my putt close for a tap-in, and it fell in the side," Hall said. "I was really happy."

Hall dropped three shots on her final two holes.

"I just lost my focus," she said. "I was hot, I was tired and I was hungry."

Barringer had a birdie, five bogeys and two double-bogeys. Williams parred eight of her holes. Lillard also went birdie-free in his opening round, but he parred his last seven holes.

"On 13, he overcooked a 3-wood and it was out of bounds by a foot," Walker Valley coach Bob Williams said. "Other than that, he played pretty good. He couldn't get anything going after that triple.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he turns it around tomorrow and plays well."
