Billingsley sets Scottsboro record with 333 yards

Scottsboro running back DeKarlos Billingsley set the school single-game rushing record with 333 yards in the team's loss to North Jackson last week.

The sophomore had 29 carries and also tied a single-game scoring record with five touchdowns. He has 1,025 yards six games into the season. It's only the second time that a Scottsboro runner has reached the 1,000-yard plateau in just six games, the other coming from Jason Utech in 1999.

Billingsley surpassed Blake Earl's record of 300 yards set in 2004 against Arab. The 5-TD standard is shared with Earl (2004), Wayne Treece (1961) and Howard Parsons (1933).

The single-game rushing record for area teams (outside Hamilton County) is held by Polk County's Zach Miller - 411 yards in 2012. McCallie's Alex Trotter reset the city rushing record this season with 374 yards against Pope John Paul II.

Baylor without McMahan

Baylor will be without starting defensive tackle Cole McMahan, a probable college prospect, for tonight's game at McCallie and perhaps for the following three weeks.

Coach Phil Massey said the senior was injured in the Red Raiders' 38-7 win over Pope John Paul II two weeks ago.

"He suffered strains of the ACL and MCL in his knee, but he won't have to have surgery," Massey said.

McMahan will be replaced by senior Tommy McFarland, who has rotated this season at the tackle spots.

"It just makes us thinner [in the offensive line)] if we have another injury," Massey said.

Calhoun turf gets test

There are many impressive streaks on the line tonight when unbeaten and 10th-ranked Adairsville visits Phil Reeve Stadium to take on second-ranked Calhoun. Among them is the fact the Yellow Jackets have never lost a game on their field turf, which was installed in 2009.

Calhoun coach Hal Lamb, whose team has sputtered offensively in two close road wins over Dalton and Ringgold, knows the Yellow Jackets must be more consistent against a Tigers team scoring more than 40 points per game.

"We have to play our best game and we can't afford a slow start," Lamb said. "Being at home will give us an edge. We have a great Friday night atmosphere and our guys seem to respond at home."

Dade's Hulgan transfers

The Times-Journal in Fort Payne, Ala., has reported that Reid Hulgan, a junior lineman who had been enrolled at Dade County, has enrolled at Fort Payne High.

Hulgan (6-4, 250) reportedly has college offers already from Marshall, South Alabama and Alabama-Birmingham.
