DALTON, Ga. - Calhoun had to work a little overtime to win the Region 6-AAA softball tournament championship Thursday and after winning three games, including two over regular season champion Ringgold.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (26-7), the Class AA champions last season, started their long day with a 4-1 win over Sonoraville in the loser's-bracket final, then rolled past Ringgold, 11-4, to set up a deciding title game. However, due to an nearly two-hour weather delay prior to the opening game, the finale did not start until 10:15.

When it ended after midnight Calhoun had earned a 8-2 win and will not host a first-round best-of-three playoff series Wednesday. Ringgold (26-6) will also host as the region's No. 2 seed, while Sonoraville and Murray County will travel as the third and fourth seeds, respectively.

After scoring six runs in the first two innings of the first game with Ringgold, Calhoun did the same in the second game. Emily Mitchell hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Ryan Brzozoski tripled in two in the second. Kinsey Liscio and Mitchell combined to shut down the Tigres on just five hits, with Mitchell earning her second save of the day and Liscio her second win.

Brozozskihad three hits, including two triples, while Chloe Rice had an RBI double for the winners
