Henry scores twice in 3-0 CCS soccer victory

Chattanooga Christian girls' soccer coach Cal Sneller stopped short of saying his team is peaking at the right time. But if there is truth to the old mantra "taking strides in the right direction," the Lady Chargers certainly are doing that right now.

Addie Henry scored two goals and the A/AA sixth-ranked Lady Chargers cruised to a 3-0 win over 11th-ranked Signal Mountain in the District 7 semifinals Tuesday evening. CCS (9-4-4) will face third-ranked Notre Dame, a 9-0 winner over Sequatchie County, in Thursday's championship match.

Henry scored in the eighth and 58th minutes.

"We played well. We're still meshing as a group," Sneller said. "The girls are doing a nice job figuring out their roles, and they're playing well enough right now."

Olivia Hoffman tacked a goal on right before halftime, assisted by Sara Farlett.

Signal (7-4-2), which never has advanced past the semifinals playing in possibly one of the state's toughest A/AA districts, never could get rolling Tuesday. Allwyn Fisher, the team's co-leader in goals with seven, went out early with an injury and, despite coming back in the second half, managed only one shot.

Late in the match, Laura Grimes went down and didn't return.

"We were terrible tonight. It was far below where we had been," Signal coach Richard Northcutt said. "We either passed CCS the ball or just kicked it. It's disappointing but not completely surprising. We were real young last year, but this year we've gone from a young team with no chance to one that's competitive some of the time.

"Now we have to take the next step to doing things right most of the time and being competitive all the time. Then we'll be a good team."

Signal goalkeeper Natalie McCarter made five saves, while Avery Boulware had two for CCS.
