Ringgold's Sosebee set for Coastal Carolina

Finding the right fit is always a priority when it comes to decision time for a high school recruit. For Ringgold offensive lineman Hunter Sosebee, the decision to commit to Coastal Carolina University was a no-brainer.

Not only are the Chanticleers (7-0) one of the fastest rising programs on the FCS level, but the school has several academic majors in the environmental sciences area. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound Sosebee just happens to want to major in marine science.

"It's a great place to play football and get the education I want," said Sosebee, a member of the Best of Preps Dynamite Dozen recruit list. "The other great thing is they run pretty much the same offense we do, so they need active linemen. I feel I can fit in right away."

Ringgold coach Robert Akins agrees and believes a year in a college training program will do wonders for the three-year starter.

"I think he'll be outstanding at Coastal Carolina," Akins said. "He already knows the offense and they will be able to get his weight up, which is really the only thing he needs to do. I think in a couple of years Hunter will be a dominant player."

Derrick Davis has had a team picture made of each of his 15 football teams since he's been head coach at Polk County. But there's about to be a little cropping done to the one made earlier this year.

The Wildcats have been one of the Chattanooga area's winningest programs under Davis, who until this year hasn't had a team with a losing season since 2000 -- his first year. Injuries have been a big reason why the Wildcats are 0-7 heading into tonight's District 5-AA home game against Sweetwater. But not the only reason.

"We dressed 31 when we played Notre Dame last week," Davis said. "That was because of injuries, and because some guys decided they didn't want to gut it out."

As a result, Davis has decided that not long after the season comes to an end the night before Halloween, he's planning to have the team picture retaken. And that will be the one that will hang on the wall at the football facility with the others.

"I'm not going to look up there and see those guys that bailed on us," Davis said. "It's easy to hang in there when you're undefeated and winning five district championships and you have a little adversity. When I look at this picture on the wall, I want to see the guys who saw this season through. Yeah, we'd like to get a win for these seniors. But regardless, I want a picture of the guys who no matter what can say, 'I hung in there.'"
