The softball coaches in District 5-AAA are scheduled to hold their pre-tournament meeting this morning.

There won't be too much to talk about.

The seeding for their tournament, which begins on Friday, is far from complete. With Soddy-Daisy beating Ooltewah 3-1 on Wednesday, the top seed is still up for grabs.

It could be Soddy-Daisy (29-7, 8-3) or it could be Walker Valley, which is 9-2 in the district.

"We still have one game to play," Soddy-Daisy cleanup hitter Grayson Brown said. "It's pretty nice knowing we can still get first."

Ooltewah (29-7, 8-3) dropped from contention for the district title with the loss on Wednesday. Ooltewah starting pitcher Kayla Boseman struck out nine, but allowed three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

"We can't win the district, but I thought we played well," Ooltewah coach Jon Massey said. "We lost our focus for a minute and then we're down 3-0."

Soddy-Daisy freshman Alexis Trimiar delivered the game's big hit with a two-run homer down the left field line that barely stayed fair while clearing the 200-foot sign.

"The pitch came in perfect and I swung," said Trimiar, who now has two home runs this season. "I knew it was gone."

The scoring started with a dribbler in front of the plate by Lauren Thomas. She scored on a single by Abby Walker and an error in the outfield. Trimiar then ensured Walker could jog to the plate.

"We are explosive up and down our lineup," Soddy-Daisy coach Wes Skiles said. "We can score in a hurry."

The three runs were more than enough for starting pitcher Emily Edwards, whose only misstep came in the seventh when Ooltewah's Jadyn Raschke hit her first home run of the season, a shot over the center field fence.

"Our defense was on their game," said Edwards, who had two strikeouts. "The outfielders made some really good plays."

Megan Beasley, the left fielder, ended the game by running back and snagging a ball out of the air. The final out set up today's showdown for the top seed in the district tournament, which begins for all but the top seed on Friday.

Skiles isn't looking that far ahead.

Even though his team can clinch a championship and the top seed, he wants his team thinking about the moment instead of the bigger picture.

"We don't talk about it," Skiles said. "We go out and we play best when we worry about having a quality at-bat or a quality pitch, then the next thing you know, the game is over and hopefully you're ahead.

"I'm not big on records. Kentucky basketball had a good record this year. Did their record matter?"
