CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. -- Gordon Lee High School football coach Charlie Wiggins has resigned from his position, athletic director Shonn Weldon confirmed Friday.

Wiggins was 11-19 in three seasons, including a 3-7 record this past season, and has a career mark of 55-53. Weldon said the search for a new coach already has begun.

"At this time of year, we have to do something quick, so we have to get going," said Weldon, who said a committee will oversee the interviewing process. "As of right now we haven't pursued any one person. We just posted it today, and once we get the applications in we'll start talking. I'm sure we'll have plenty of applications because it's a good situation. We've got a bunch of good kids who are ready to get something good going."

The Trojans made the playoffs in Wiggins' first season but went 0-5 in Region 6-A in 2013 and then 2-4 after moving up in classification to Region 7-AA. Weldon said he hopes the new coach will treat the students as well as Wiggins has.

"Of course, we wish Charlie the best," said Weldon, who wants to get someone in place before a decision on spring football practice has to be made. "He's a good guy and a personal friend of mine. Charlie has always been good to the kids, and he's always represented Gordon Lee well. But we're excited to look toward the future and all that holds for our football program."
