Sale Creek made history and Baylor continued a tradition when the Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced its 2015 all-state high school softball team.

Sale Creek junior pitcher McKenna Morgan, according to coach Clifford Kirk, became the first softball player in school history to earn all-state honors.

"You don't get all-state very often if your team doesn't get to the state tournament, so I'd say that she's the first," Kirk said. "I can't 100 percent say yes, but I'd say it's 95 percent sure that she's the only one from Sale Creek to make the team. Without McKenna, (the school's first softball state appearance) would have been a different story."

Morgan shared area public-school honors with sophomore Brianna Muller of Polk County, freshman Kaili Crawley of Central, senior Hallie Davis of Walker Valley, freshman Kayla Boseman of Ooltewah and senior Briana Jones of Coffee County.

Baylor, the only Chattanooga-area team to win a softball state championship this year, placed three players on the Division II-AA all-state team.

Outfielder Lauren Lewis, who had her nails painted University of Kentucky blue for the state tournament, earned a spot on the team. Pitcher Kayla Hughes, who has committeed to Tennessee Tech, also was selected, along with freshman infielder Cheyenne Lindsey, who tied a Spring Fling record with four stolen bases in one game.

"I'm excited for those girls," Baylor coach Kelli Smith said. "It's a great honor.

"Chattanooga has always been a very talented softball community," Smith said. "It's nice to see the girls get the recognition they deserve. There's a lot of talent year after year that comes from Chattanooga."
