One week can make a big difference to a softball team.

Soddy-Daisy found revenge on Wednesday at GPS with a 5-2 victory over the Bruisers to avenged 1-0 loss from one week ago.

"Adjustments can be made in a week, a day or even within an inning," Soddy-Daisy coach Wes Skiles said. "Anytime we can play good competition, we'll do that. Today, our hitters made a couple adjustments.

The Lady Trojans scored five times and smacked six hits against the Bruisers on Wednesday, with four runs coming in the second inning.

It's quite a contrast from the previous Wednesday when freshman Shelby Walters pitched a perfect game for the Bruisers and hit a home run for the only score.

"The last game was a pitcher's duel, and our girl threw a perfect game; I think we had only four hits," GPS coach Susan Crownover said. "They threw a great game as well last week.

"Today was different. They knocked (Walters) around a bit in the second inning."

The Bruisers problems started in the first inning when they left the bases loaded and all three outs came on strikeouts by Soddy-Daisy starter Emily Edwards.

The Lady Trojans found their swing against Walters in the top of the second inning. Alexis Trimier, Grayson Brown and Macy Bryant all scored in the inning which included two GPS errors and three Soddy-Daisy hits. The Lady Trojans sent nine batters to the plate that inning.

"It's a huge improvement from last week," sophomore catcher Sam Swafford said. "We adjusted. We had to get back in the box."

Brown said that simple adjustment worked for her.

"We've been working on getting after the ball and being aggressive at the plate," said Brown, who went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the fifth-inning. "Since we started taking hacks at the ball it's worked for us."

The Bruisers (1-3-1) started another rally against Edwards in the bottom of the sixth inning. They had scored one run and had the bases loaded with one out.

Skiles switched pitchers. He put Shonna Penny in the circle, and she struck out the first two batters she faced.

"We were struggling to get that game-breaking hit," Crownover said. "That's what the game is about. We couldn't get the big hit. Their pitchers did a good job of getting us out."
