MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The offensive intensity didn't fade for Addy Cronan and Christian Academy of Knoxville on Friday.

It just didn't translate into goals this time, as CAK fell 1-0 in overtime to Chattanooga Christian in the Class A/AA girls' soccer state semifinals at the Richard Siegel complex.

Kyra Duble scored the decisive goal for Chattanooga Christian (17-5-3) off an assist from Olivia Hoffman in the first of two 10-minute overtime periods.

"That's a very good defense," said CAK coach Ried Estus, a former Covenant College standout. "You're going to have to convert a half-chance, somebody gets a foot on it or the ball richocheting off somebody.

"Addy created a lot of quality chances - she just did. But she was going to have to bury one with a player laying on her back."

CAK (19-5) churned out 19 shots on Friday, a day after outshooting Lexington 23-9 in a 9-2 quarterfinal victory. CCS had won in penalty kicks in its late-ending quarterfinal, and the Lady Chargers went home and attended classes Friday before making the return trip.

"The game overall was very close, and my girls are very tired," CCS coach Cal Sneller said. "It was back and forth, back and forth, and both teams relied a little on the counterattack.

"They were marking Olivia very, very tight, and she was a good little decoy (on the winning play). She was able to pull them away and feed it up top to Kyra for a breakaway."

Cronan, a senior, created the bulk of the Lady Warriors' chances in the semifinal by dribbling, dodging and weaving around defenders. She had six of CAK's 12 shots on goal, her best chance coming in the 73rd minute when she intercepted a throw-in in the box. She had a clear path to the goal, but her shot sailed over the crossbar.

"We played them earlier this year and kind of knew what we were up against," Cronan said, referencing a 3-0 loss in CAK's regular-season finale. "We knew they had a stonewall defense. I'm super proud of our girls. We worked so hard."

Sophomore Skyler Woidtke posted 11 saves for CAK, which was in the state tournament for the 10th year in a row. Woidtke had nine saves in regulation, including a diving stop of Hoffman's shot in the 73rd minute.

"She's a beast," Cronan said. "She has saved our butts so many times. She should be proud of herself. Her improvement the past two years - she came out last year in her first year and now she's a super high-class goalie."

CCS, which edged Christ Presbyterian Academy on PKs in the quarterfinals, will play Greeneville for the championship at noon today.

Makenzie Ellenburg's three goals helped the Lady Devils (24-2) advance past Page 4-0 in the other semifinal. Jessica Sallah had the other goal for Greeneville, which posted its 21st shutout of the season.

The Lady Devils are chasing their first girls' soccer state championship. CCS, which edged Greeneville 1-0 in the regular season, won its only state title in 1997.

"After games that went 110 minutes and 100, my girls are very tired," Sneller said, "and now we play the scoring machine. We have our work cut out, but we are the only team to shut out Greeneville."

He gave special praise to defenders Kate Dirkse and Leah Hoffman as well as to keeper Lucy Sandhoff, who had 12 saves against CAK.
