Signal Mountain golfer Jacob Bailey signs with Tennessee Tech

Jacob Bailey became a first for Signal Mountain Middle High School this past week - the first boy from there to sign a golf scholarship with an NCAA Division I school.

Bailey is going from the Eagles to the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech.

"While we have had several lady golfers who have gone on to play Division I golf, Jacob is our first male golfer to reach that same level, and we have had a number of really strong golfers on our boys' team," Signal Mountain coach Rodney Mitchell said in a release.

"He is a leader on and off the course, has an unsurpassed work ethic and great golfing temperament, and he is a good student," Mitchell said.

Bailey was the Eagles' team captain last fall, when he finished second in the district and region tournaments, fourth in the City Prep, fifth in the Willowbrook Invitational and 17th in the TSSAA Class A/AA state tournament.

"It felt like home, and I wanted to play for Coach (Polk) Brown if given the opportunity," Bailey said of TTU. "Tech is giving me the chance to get a good education and play college golf."

At his signing ceremony he thanked God and his parents for his success, as well as Mitchell, Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club head professional Paul Helle and swing coaches Bruce Etter and Rusty Pickett.
