Central High School again is looking for a football coach.

Principal Finley King confirmed Tuesday night that Gary Bloodsaw had been relieved of his duties as the Purple Pounders coach.

"We're going to move in a different direction, go back to the drawing board," King said. "We'll get back to looking again."

Bloodsaw was the Pounders' fourth head football coach this decade and their seventh 16 seasons into this century.

The 2015 team was winless and scored no more than 14 points in any game.

"Worst record in the school's history," King said. "It was performance and just basically a lack of community support. Alumni supporters, booster club members and parents didn't like the direction things were headed in. We've been competitive in every sport but that one."

The principal praised Bloodsaw for his classroom abilities and as a person and even noted Bloodsaw's previous success at neighboring Brown Middle School.

"He's a great man, a great teacher, but it takes something special to be a head football coach today," King said. "He was a very successful middle school coach, but middle school football and high school football are quite different."

Bloodsaw had filed two lawsuits against the Hamilton County school system and as a result of the second suit reportedly was told he'd be the head coach if the current coach left in a three-year period from the start of the out-of-court settlement.

He got the job after Ryan Mallory resigned after just one year. Mallory had replaced John Allen, who stepped down after three years. Prior to Allen, Central's coaches dating back to 2000 were David Barger, Bo Campbell and Curt Jones.

Mallory's 2014 squad made the playoffs, finishing the year 6-5. Montgomery's team was 6-5 in 2010, his lone season. The only better record (8-4) came in 2003 under Jones.
