Baylor's Lady Red Raiders on Tuesday at Soddy-Daisy looked like a high school softball team in midseason form.

However, their 10-0 five-inning victory over the Lady Trojans was merely their second game of the year.

Baylor beat Central last week in its opener. Coach Kelli Smith said her team had three good practices afterward last week but would call Monday's practice only "decent."

"I didn't know what to expect," Smith said. "Soddy-Daisy has got a great team. I think we could go out and play them 10 more times and the score is not going to be 10-0. It was just our day today. We used our speed. Our hitters, one through nine, and our defense was there. The ball just rolled our way today."

The onslaught started early with Cheyenne Lindsey leading off the game with a line-drive single to left field and a steal of second. That started a three-run rally.

"I think it can always make a big difference when the visitor comes out and scores, especially three runs," Smith said. "That was a great start."

The only real trouble winning pitcher Kayla Hughes encountered was in the bottom of the fourth, which began with Sydney Rader's infield hit. Megan Beasley grounded a single to right, and a walk to Cam Swafford loaded the bases.

Hughes then got a pitcher-to-catcher-to-first double play before another groundout ended the threat. It was the second double play turned behind Hughes, who ended up with a four-hitter with two walks and two strikeouts.

"That one wasn't quite as big as the bases-loaded double play," Smith said. "That could've led into a big inning."

The Lady Raiders scored in every inning and had multiple hits in every inning except the second. That inning they got an RBI triple from Lindsey, who finished 3-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.

"I give them credit," Soddy-Daisy coach Wes Skiles said. "They came out here and put the ball in play and put the pressure on us. They were scrappy, and we couldn't get anything going. Their pitcher kept us off balance. We hit a few balls hard, but they beat us in all three phases: pitching, hitting and defense. You really only have to win two of the three, and they won three of three."

Crosby Huckabay went 2-for-3 for Baylor with a home run and four RBIs. Hughes was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Trinity Liner singled, walked twice, drove in a run, scored two and stole a base.

Megan Beasley was 2-for-2 for Soddy-Daisy (4-1), which had two players suffer injuries and come out of the game.

Shortstop and leadoff batter Alexis Trimiar injured her left knee during a collision at second base on A.J. Johnson's steal in the fourth. The extent of Trimiar's injury is unknown. Third baseman Grayson Brown strained a hip and Skiles said her availability will be day to day.
