Notre Dame's Cameron Wynn, a football player still in his freshman year, has received a scholarship offer from Tennessee.

It came thanks to teammate Sam Stovall, an offensive lineman who was invited to the Volunteers' Junior Day.

"The week before Junior Day the coaching staff looks at film and Coach (Butch) Jones was in with the offensive staff," Irish coach Charles Fant said. "They were looking at Sam, and it was a game where we had Cameron at running back. Sam was blocking about 30 yards downfield and Cameron wound up with an 80-yard touchdown. Coach Jones said, 'I love this kid. Let's offer him.'"

A 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, Wynn is a defensive back, receiver and running back who already is drawing comparisons to former Irish standout Kareem Orr, who started for Arizona State last fall as a true freshman.

"He's bigger than Kareem was as a freshman, and he's faster than Kareem," Fant said.

The Vols obviously are also interested in the 6-4, 285-pound Stovall, but they aren't the only ones.

"Most of the ACC schools are after him to come to camps this summer," Fant said.

Another Notre Dame player is likely to get scholarship offers from at least mid-major schools. Fant said Patrick Johnson is getting looks from Cincinnati and Appalachian State, among others. Johnson is a 6-2, 245-pound tight end and defensive end.
