Dalton, Calhoun girls and Trion boys win state golf titles

The Dalton and Calhoun girls and Trion boys won Georgia High School Association state golf championships Tuesday in Augusta, and Trion's Dawson Day shot a 73 to win by five strokes individually in the Bulldogs' 24-stroke Class A-Public triumph.

Trion shot a 341 to 365 for second-place Schley County. Trion was fourth in the girls' tournament with a collective 210.

Led by Carson Roberts' tie for second at 76, one shot behind the medalist, and Katelyn Skiffen's sixth-place 79, Dalton won the AAAAA girls' event with a 241, six strokes clear of runner-up Columbus. Columbus was the boys' champion at 282 with Dalton seventh at 307 as Carter Pendley carded a 74 and Landon Hicks and Allen Behr had 76s.

Calhoun tied Blessed Trinity at 257 in AAA and won on the second hole of a playoff, while Tori Owens of Murray County tied for second individually at 79 and North Murray's Savannah Satterfield and Sonoraville's Clara Hulsey were fourth and fifth at 80 and 81. Kate Mashburn led Calhoun with an 85. North Murray was the fourth-place team at 267 with Sonoraville 10th at 292 and Gordon Central 16th at 316. Coahulla Creek was sixth in the boys with 340. Ringgold's Gavin Noble tied for sixth individually at 75.

Heritage's Sport Allmond was second by a stroke with his all-classifications area-best 71 in Class AAAA, and LaFayette's Gage Smith was third at 73. LaFayette was fourth among boys' teams at 326, Heritage was sixth at 330 and Northwest Whitfield was 11th at 338. The LaFayette and Heritage girls were ninth and 10th at 288 and 289.

Both Gordon Lee teams were fifth in AA, the boys with a 317 led by 75s from Tucker Windham and Justin Hickman and the girls with a 171 featuring a 79 from MaCall Miller.
