The Signal Mountain girls' track and field team had athletes finish in the top two in 10 of 18 events at the Class A/AA East sectional Thursday at Christian Academy of Knoxville. The Lady Eagles won the team title, scoring 126 points to finish 23 ahead of runner-up CAK.

Signal Mountain was led by senior sprinter McKenzie Ethridge, who won the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Arts & Sciences junior Lennex Walker highlighted a strong showing by Chattanooga-area athletes. In addition to winning the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump, she placed second in the 200. Walker also won the pentathlon earlier this week.

Ethridge, Walker and others who finished in the top four in their events have qualified for next week's Spring Fling in Murfreesboro. The girls' state meet is Thursday and the boys' state meet is Friday, both at Middle Tennessee State University.

In the boys' A/AA sectional on Thursday, Red Bank's Kedrick Wilbanks (100) and Tyner's Gerry Davis (shot put) were the only local first-place finishers.
