Four Girls Preparatory School runners were among the top 17 finishers in the Division II-AA state cross country meet Saturday, helping the Bruisers finish runners-up.
Brentwood Academy's girls won the state title at Nashville's Percy Warner Park Steeplechase Course, but GPS junior Carley Braman was third with a time of 19:30.67 and senior teammate Kate McVay was sixth in 20:16.59. Eighth-grader Jane Eiselsteian was 15th (21:04.53), and sophomore Myra Brock was 17th (21:12.49).
Baylor, which finished third in the team standings, was led by senior Alison Anderson, who finished 12th overall (20:46.66). Also, Lady Red Raiders eighth-grader Emrick Garrett finished 13th (20:54.03) and sophomores Addison Smith and Sydney Cansler were 14th (21:04.53) and 19th (21:22.96).
Signal Mountain senior Taylor Luthringer had the best individual time among Chattanooga-area girls' runners, finishing second in the Class A/AA meet in 19:02.60 as her team finished fifth. Also in the A/AA meet, Boyd-Buchanan senior Jada Hale was 13th (20:24.30).
In the boys' races, Signal Mountain senior Thomas Porter was seventh (16:44.18) in the A/AA meet, helping the Eagles finish sixth in the team standings, while Red Bank's Cole Bullock was 10th (16:46.71) in the same race.
McCallie was fifth in the team standings in the boys' Division II-AA race, led by senior George Arrowsmith, who finished 14th (17:17.63).
Georgia
Georgia also held its state meet Saturday and Gordon Lee's Jasper Wilson was the top area finisher, taking third in the Class A public-school division with a time of 18:51.53. Teammate Justin Collins was seventh (19:09.44) to help the Trojans finish third in the team standings.
In the girls' Class A race, Gordon Lee's Katelyn Gilliam was 11 (23:46.38) and teammates Grace O'Neal (24:02.74) and Sarah Young (24:26.20 were 12th and 14th respectively to help their team finish third overall. Trion's Savanna Landry was 13 (24:18).
In Class AAAAAA, Dalton's Adan Rodriguez finished sixth (16:56.10) and teammate Lance Sotelo was 18th (17:24.24). And in Class AAA, Coahulla Creek's Walt Douglas was ninth (17:00.70) and teammate Bryce Jones was 13th (17:21.34), while Murray County's Jessie Martinez was 14th (17:21.41).
