Chattanooga Christian's Harris eighth in A/AA girls' state

Only one local golfer sits in the top 10 after the first day of competition at the Class A/AA state tournament at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester.

Chattanooga Christian senior Anna Harris is tied for eighth after shooting a first-day 9-over-par score.

Also in the girls' field, Signal Mountain teammates Taylor Gardner, a junior, and sophomore Lindsey Hollis are tied for 12th at 10 over. Boyd-Buchanan sophomore Lydia Campbell is one stroke behind those two, while Hixson's Haley Chalker and Ali Barker are 16th and 20th heading into today's final round.

Boyd-Buchanan is sixth in the overall team standings, eight strokes ahead of Chattanooga Christian, which is eighth. Christian Academy of Knoxville leads the girls' team standings, 18 shots ahead of second place.

The top area boys' golfer after the first day is McMinn Central's John Houk, who is tied for 15th with a first-day 4-over 76. Silverdale Baptist Academy's Dalton Sutton is tied for 18th with a 77.

Christ Presbyterian Academy has a one-stroke lead over Knoxville Catholic in the boys' team standings. No area boys' teams are among the top eight.
