Baylor secured its 18th win of the 2016 volleyball season and took just 57 minutes to move to 5-0 in Division II-AA East/Middle Region play Wednesday.

The undefeated Lady Red Raiders bested visiting GPS 3-0, with the set scores 25-16, 25-11 and 25-8.

"It was a big win for us, but we want to be undefeated in the region, so every region match is a big match for us," said middle hitter Jane Wilson, who is closing in on the school's career blocks record.

Wilson and her fellow seniors have not lost to GPS, and Wednesday's victory was the seventh of their careers against the Bruisers.

The teams were tied at 16 in the first game before Baylor ran off nine straight points to win.

"We had a lot of errors on our side. That first game we had a lot of hitting errors," Baylor coach Sarah Lail said. "I'm completely happy with the win, and we're happy to have it. Once we got out of the beginning of the first game and started getting our rhythm, I felt we got comfortable and went consistently through the rest of the match."

Baylor had two long scoring runs in the second game, going from 14-9 to 25-11. The Lady Raiders were up 10-3 before a timeout in the third game but were never in danger.

Gabby Gray led the way with 12 kills, Wilson added six kills and four blocks and Lexie Laurendine and Paris Buckner had six and four kills, respectively. Sarah Sumida recorded 35 assists.

Baylor is ranked eighth nationally in the CBS Sports/MaxPreps poll.

"They have a junior setter in Sarah Semida that can pretty much ran an offense from anywhere, and when you have that you can run just about any kind of offense," GPS coach Alfie Dodd said.

Dodd was without his best player, Libby Berger (ACL injury) and he has a very young team (starting a freshman and three sophomores), but he offered homage to Lail.

"First and foremost it starts with the coach, and she's amazing," he said. "Sarah Lail is probably the most knowledgeable, best-IQ volleyball coach in the state."
