Sarah Sumida, the setter on Baylor's TSSAA Division II-AA state-championship volleyball team, recently made a change in college plans and has committed to Middle Tennessee State University. She can sign in April.

Sumida had been pledged to play at Tennessee Tech, but because the Golden Eagles are going through a coaching change that still hasn't been settled, she enlisted the help of Baylor coach Sarah Lail in getting her name back out in the recruiting circles.

Sumida said she took a trip to Murfreesboro two weeks ago to tour the MTSU campus.

"I wanted to keep my options open," she said of how TTU's coaching situation affected her decision. "I went on that visit, and my mom went with me, and I loved it. We had the best time. I loved everything about the school."

Sumida, who plans to study biology with the hope of eventually attending optometry school, is a first-team selection on the Times Free Press Best of Preps team announced today (page D6).
