Baylor first-night leader in state swim meet

Led by a state-record 200-yard freestyle by Trey Freeman, Baylor School jumped to a huge first-night lead in the combined standings at the TISCA state swmming and diving meet Friday in Knoxville.

Baylor enters today's competition in the Allan Jones center with 231 points, compared to 116 for second-place Hardin Valley and 82 for Brentwood High. The Baylor boys are up 158 to 147 over Memphis University School with McCallie third with 66 points and Science Hill and L&N Sten Academy tied for fourth with 51.

Harpeth Hall leads the girls' standings with 128 points, followed by Hardin Valley with 104, St. Mary's Episcopal with 86, Baylor with 73 and Ravenwood completing the top five with 58.

Freeman's 1:34.92 in the 200 free broke his own TISCA record, set last year, by two seconds, and teammate Prada Castillo finished sixth. And the Red Raiders' 200 medley relay team of Zach Althoff, Matthew Boyer, Peter Lochmaier and Gershwin Greene was second in an automatic All-American time of 1:31.33.

Greene was fourth and Jack Best was seventh in the 50 free, Baylor teammates Luis Sebastian Weekes and Jack Kirby were fourth and sixth in the 200 individual medley and Lochmaier was fifth with Althoff eighth in the 100 butterfly. McCallie's Jack Patton was fifth in 1-meter diving, and Ethan Bevill was eighth in the 200 IM.

In girls' events, Baylor's Addison Smith was fourth in the 200 IM and joined Jamee Mitchum, Sam Suer and Jewel Gordon with a sixth-place 200 medley relay. Hannah Gill was seventh in the 200 free, and Mitchum was eighth in the 100 fly.
