Gaither takes over for Stacey Hill, who resigned after being arrested in a prostitution sting last week in Dalton, Ga.

He has coached 48 individual individual state track and cross country champions, the GPS release said.

Gaither is a four-time Times Free Press girls' track and field coach of the year and was the cross country honoree this past fall. He has finished the Boston Marathon twice.

He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Georgia and served the university as men's and women's head coach in cross country and an assistant coach in track before coming to Chattanooga.
