The annual Sequatchie Valley football jamboree, one of the oldest in Tennessee, has been set for Friday, Aug. 11, at Sequatchie County High School in Dunlap.

Eight teams will play two 12-minute periods each, and the event features three teams that reached at least the semifinals of the state playoffs last season.

Host Sequatchie County, which was undefeated in the 2016 regular season and reached the Class 3A semifinals, opens play against Silverdale Baptist Academy. South Pittsburg, which advanced to the 1A semifinals, will play Grundy County in the third period, and Marion County, the 2A state runner-up each of the last three seasons, will face county rival Whitwell in the fourth period. Bledsoe County and Lookout Valley face off in the second period.

The event begins at 7 p.m. EDT, and there will be a skills competition after the fourth period. Admission costs $8.

That same date is also the first of the two-day Kickoff Classic Best of Preps jamboree, sponsored by the Times Free Press, at Finley Stadium. That event has a total of 19 area teams competing and has a new format that will allow each team to play two 20-minute quarters, against different opponents, with a running clock. There will be seven quarters of action on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., and 12 quarters played on Saturday, beginning at 4.

Tickets for the Finley event are $10 and can be purchased through the individual teams as well as at the gate the day of the event. All proceeds from ticket sales go to the schools competing in the event.
