McCallie graduating senior Drew Viscomi was named the Gatorade boys' soccer player of the year for Tennessee on Monday.

Viscomi, who will continue his career at Northwestern, finished with 36 goals and 12 assists for the Blue Tornado, who went 14-1-4 and won the Division II-AA championship for their first state title since 1999.

He is believed to be the first Chattanooga-area male athlete to receive the honor since another McCallie standout, Ben Stafford, won the award in 1996. Stafford went on to Wake Forest, where he finished with 36 goals and 19 assists during his career and was a 2000 All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.

Former Soddy-Daisy standout Summer Lanter picked up the girls' Gatorade award in 2013.

Viscomi finished his McCallie career with 89 goals and 35 assists, as well as maintaining a 3.96 grade-point average. He was a four-time Times Free Press Best of Preps selection, a two-time All-State selection and a 2016 All-American.
