Steventon, Dawson, Benson receive top Fellowship of Christian Athletes awards

McCallie's Palmer Steventon and Marion County's Pressley Dawson were honored Sunday as the FCA high school Christian athletes of the year in southeastern Tennessee.

Both area Fellowship of Christian Athletes organizations held their Day of Champions on Sunday, and McCallie's Palmerton Steventon and Marion County's Pressley Dawson were honored as the high school Christian athletes of the year for southeastern Tennessee. LaFayette golfer Rebecca Benson received the corresponding award for northwestern Georgia.

Chattooga basketball player Rhett Walker was the Lookout Mountain chapter's runner-up and received the R.A. "Dub" Goff Determination Award. Benson got the Dicky Clark Outstanding Leadership Award.

Other school nominees in the Georgia group were Bryce Nethery of Dade County, Sidney Pierce of Gordon Lee, Jacob Frogge of Heritage, Bryson Harris of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Cortney Mooneyham of Ridgeland and Madison Langston of Trion.

Tennessee nominees besides Steventon, Dawson and co-runners-up Hannah McGrath of Ooltewah and D'Andre Anderson of Central were Kentrell Evans of Brainerd, Sydnee Scott of East Hamilton, Mya Adams of East Ridge, Andrew Frantom of Red Bank, Garrett Chappelear of Richard Hardy, Matthew Williams of Signal Mountain, Alex Gonzalez of Silverdale Baptist, Jaden Holcombe of Soddy-Daisy, Alise Bedford of tyner and Blake Davenport of Whitwell.

Hixson Middle huddle coach Chris Thomas got the Jim Sattler Leadership Award, McCallie educators Lynn Goss and Terry Evans shared the Legacy Builder Coaches Award and Will Campbell and Chris Walker received the Gerry Stephens Influence Award. ChristWay Community Church was honored for its support to Ooltewah FCA and athletics, and Rhea Middle's Cooper Ruehling got the Judy Fowler Leadership Award.

Other middle school athletes nominated were William Hopper of CSLA, Aden Sternberg of East Hamilton, Dana Wells of Loftis, William Richard of Ooltewah, Seth Hodge of Sale Creek and Justin Lee of Soddy-Daisy. Georgia middle schoolers honored were Chattanooga Valley's Kyle Brown, Dade's Julie Silverthorne, Gordon Lee's Jake Lee, Heritage twins Caleb and Caston Campbell, LaFayette's Adrian Edgeworth, Lyerly's Emma White, Menlo's Ellie Martin, Ringgold's Scott Clinton, Rossville's T.J. Atkins, Saddle Ridge's Logan Ball, Summerville's Memery Gwin and Trion's Linzie Thompson.
