Baylor, McCallie one-two after first day of state swim meet

Baylor School is first and Chattanooga rival McCallie is second in the boys' standings after the first day of the TISCA state swimming meet Friday in Knoxville, and with the Lady Red Raiders in second place Baylor has a huge lead in combined points.

Baylor's Trey Freeman broke his state record in the 200-yard freestyle and set a national high school record of 1 minute, 33.06 seconds, and teammates Jack Kirby, Luis Sebastian Weekes, Zach Althoff and Piotr Kurleto won the 200 medley relay with the nation's fastest time this season. Weekes won the 200 individual medley with Gabriel Johnson from Chattanooga's home-school team second, and Althoff and Kurleto were third in the 100 butterfly and 50 free, respectively.

Baylor's Addison Smith was second in the girls' 200 free.

In the combined rankings, Baylor begins today with 239 points to 87.5 for second-place Maryville High, which is fourth in the boys' standings with 79.5. Baylor ended Friday with 125 boys' points with McCallie at 114.5 and Memphis University School third at 88.

Harpeth Hall is the girls' leader with 164 points, followed by Baylor with 114, Hardin Valley with 68 and Girls Preparatory School a close fourth with 67.

GPS and McCallie both had third-place finishes in the medley relays,
