Silverdale Baptist Academy has named Jon Massey its new head baseball coach. Massey had worked the past 17 years at Ooltewah High School, his alma mater, where he was a head coach in baseball and softball.

After working in special education for his entire teaching career, Massey will work in the instructional support department at SBA.

"I was intrigued by the teaching job, honestly," Massey said. "Getting to work with younger kids, you feel like you can make an impact on their lives.

"As far as baseball, that job came open on the same day that I had resigned from my (Ooltewah softball) job, which is odd, but I'm happy to get this chance. I'm excited to get to know the kids in the school and the players."

In five seasons as the Lady Owls' softball coach, he guided the program to a record of 180-45 and three trips to the Class AAA state tournament. He coached the school's baseball program to a 79-46 overall record. He has also worked on the Cleveland State Community College baseball staff.

Massey played baseball for two seasons at the University of Tennessee.

"We are equally excited that he and his staff will continue to move forward with our vision statement of preparing young men," Silverdale Baptist Academy announced in a news release.
