Savage, Lookouts too much for Suns, 7-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-Starting pitcher Will Savage allowed five hits and one run in seven innings as the Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Jacksonville Suns 7-3 in Southern League baseball Saturday night.

The Lookouts, leading the North Division second-half race, improved to nine games over .500 (25-16) for the first time in three seasons as the Class AA affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Scott Van Slyke, Travis Denker and Corey Smith had consecutive singles to load the bases and Elian Herrera had a sacrifice fly to right field. The visitors extended their advantage to 3-1 in the fourth inning on Griff Erickson's two-run homer to left and to 5-1 in the sixth when Alfredo Silverio's single to right scored Denker and Herrera.

Game three of a five-game series is tonight at 6:05. Michael Antonini (9-8, 3.68 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Omar Poveda (7-5, 4.30) scheduled for the Suns.
