First-place Lookouts overcome Smokies, 6-4

KODAK, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts added a little cushion to their Southern League North Division lead over the host Tennessee Smokies with a 6-4 win Tuesday night.

Jake Lemmerman and Scott Van Slyke drove in two runs each as Chattanooga (35-22) won for the second time in three nights against the Smokies (33-25). The Lookouts took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Hector Gimenez and Van Slyke and made it 4-0 in the fourth when Lemmerman's single to left field scored Matt Wallach and Alfredo Silverio.

Chattanooga took its largest lead at 5-0 in the fifth when Van Slyke singled to left to score Alex Castellanos.

The game lasted three hours and 20 minutes, marking the ninth consecutive Lookouts game in excess of three hours.

Game four of the five-game series is tonight at 7:15. Will Savage (12-4, 3.63 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Trey McNutt (3-5, 4.56) scheduled for the Smokies.
