Gimenez blast lifts Lookouts

Hector Gimenez provided Tuesday night's top highlight for the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field with a three-run home run to right field in the sixth inning.

His trip around the bases was an adventure as well.

Gimenez's homer wiped out a stellar showing by Jackson starting pitcher James Paxton and catapulted the Lookouts to a 4-2 win over the Generals. While returning to home plate, Gimenez brushed Jackson catcher Brandon Bantz before turning around and pointing at him.

Generals third baseman Leury Bonilla raced in to exchange words with Gimenez, and both benches cleared. Tempers settled after about a minute, and both teams were warned by home-plate umpire Brandon Henson.

"It was a three-run jack that turned the game around emotionally," Lookouts manager Carlos Subero said. "I talked to their catcher, and he said Hector showed him up. We don't encourage guys to do that. It just happened."

Paxton had not allowed a hit and was facing the minimum until Kyle Russell singled to center with two out in the fifth inning.

Brad Coon opened the sixth for Chattanooga (19-12) with a single to right and advanced to second on a passed ball. He got to third on a Wilberto Ortiz groundout and scored on Alfredo Silverio's infield hit, which pulled the Lookouts within 2-1.

Paxton was pulled at that point, but relief pitcher Taylor Stanton allowed a walk to Brian Cavazos-Galvez and then the homer to Gimenez, who wasn't in much of a mood to discuss what followed.

"I hit the ball, and for some reason they got mad," he said. "I've got to put that behind me. It's already over. I didn't see anything that I did wrong, but they've got their reasons."

Lookouts reliever Ethan Martin committed a horrific throwing error to give Jackson runners at third and second with one out in the eighth inning, but Martin responded by striking out Bonilla and Jake Shaffer. Stephen Pryor, who pitched at Cleveland State and Tennessee Tech, worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning for the Generals.

Chris Withrow (3-5, 4.26 ERA) is scheduled to start this morning's 11:15 game for the Lookouts, with Erasmo Ramirez (7-6, 4.66) scheduled for the Generals.
