HOOVER, Ala. - The Chattanooga Lookouts ended their five-game losing streak with a 6-2 win Tuesday night against the Birmingham Barons.
The six runs were one more than the Lookouts had totaled in those five losses. No Lookout had more than one hit Tuesday, but the team had eight, including Alfredo Silverio's triple to left field after Kyle Russell's leadoff single to center in the three-run second and Jaime Pedroza's triple after two walks in the fourth.
Newly arrived Corey Smith's leadoff homer in the fifth gave Chattanooga a 6-0 lead for starting pitcher David Pfeiffer, who left after allowing a run in the bottom of the inning and four hits total with four strikeouts. Pfeiffer took the turn originally slated for Joe Newby, who was promoted Monday to Class AAA Albuquerque.
Game three of the five-game series in Hoover is today at 1:30 p.m. EDT. Allen Webster (0-1, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Dylan Axelrod (3-2, 3.45) scheduled for the Barons.
* Russell was the Southern League hitter of the week after going 11-for-26 with four homers, six doubles, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two homers on May 23 at Carolina, added three doubles the next night and went 3-for-5 with two homers and an RBI double the next night at home against Huntsville.
